Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Sustainability, Geography, Public Policy, Regional Planning or related discipline with expertise in scholarship and teaching in GIS. Two years experience teaching at the college level. Expertise in any of the following areas: Earth Science, Geology, Environmental Policy and Planning, or Systems Thinking and Modeling (STELLA). Ability to teach courses in GIS and at least one substantive area such as: demography, coastal policy, environmental policy, land use, physical geography, human geography, and other areas pertinent to sustainability studies. Record of scholarly achievement and publications relevant to their specialization. Record of, or potential for, successful research funding.
Responsibilities & Requirements: The Visiting Assistant Professor will be responsible for teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The selected candidate will be responsible for collaborating with interdisciplinary sustainability research and teaching teams within the program, curriculum development and performing university, program and community service. The successful incumbent will be responsible for publishing in their academic field, as well as securing research funding. In the Sustainability Studies Program at Stony Brook University, our mission is to educate a new generation of scholars and practitioners, and invigorate the field of sustainability to address and find solutions to our most pressing environmental global challenges.
Special Notes: This is a non-tenure track position, with a three-year renewable contract. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
